1. I hope you didn’t think I was trying to change her view! I was just trying to explain :) I didn’t mean to come off like I felt like she should think differently. I see what you mean about making it seem more politically correct, and there are definitely still issues when it comes to the terms “pro-choice” and “pro-life”. For example, people can debate that “pro-life” should consider the mother’s life as well (sorry if that’s kind of off topic). Even if it was changed to be “seen as more politically correct”, I think people who are pro-choice tend to believe in the choice and not the abortion, as pro-abortion makes it seem like they think everyone should get an abortion and not even consider keeping the baby, when in fact they are for people keeping OR not keeping the baby. and it’s nice that you’re proud of being pro-life, I just hope you know I’m not trying to force my views on anyone!
2. Don’t worry you’re not being an a-hole! I appreciate you messaging me about it haha. You’re right when you say that pro-choice does mean that you’re not against people getting an abortion, but saying that you are “for” it seems like you are saying that pro-choice people want people getting abortions. I think there is a distinction between the two, because pro-choice is more of allowing the mother to make the choice, and yes she can get an abortion if this is her decision, but she can also keep the baby.
As said by @earlymorningrun: I’d just like to say that to be pro-choice, you do not have to agree with abortion at all. You may, under any circumstance, carry your child to term and hate the idea of anyone having an abortion, but recognize that no one has the right to tell someone what to do with her own body. Pro choice means just that- pro-CHOICE.
Obviously I am not an expert on this issue… this is just what I’ve gathered from what I’ve read and learned and from other people who have sent helpful comments! I don’t mean to sway your opinion on being pro-choice or pro-life!
Pro-abortion seems to mean that you are ALWAYS for the woman getting an abortion. Pro-choice more means that someone is in favor of the woman having the choice to do what they want to their own bodies. So though yes, pro-choice DOES mean that they agree that women have the choice to have an abortion, it isn’t synonymous with pro-abortion :)
